The former government offices in Caernarfon are set to be sold. An asking price of £1,000,000 has been set for the five storey building on Penrallt which is located in the town centre.

The building was formerly used by the Welsh Government until 2018 when it moved its offices to Victoria Dock. A separate area of the building was also used as a Jobcentre until 2019 before it relocated to St Helens Street.

With its concrete frame, glazed elevations and mansard roof, the 41,173 sq ft building is among the most recognisable structures in the centre of Caernarfon. However, in recent years it has become far less used in comparison to previous decades.

The building is marketed by real estate firm Avison Young. Internally, the building has been subdivided to provide a mixture of open plan and modular offices which are also on let as a whole.

Both Gwynedd Council and the Welsh Government have said that the sale of the Penrallt site will not affect their services and work. A Welsh Government spokesperson said: “The Welsh Government office in Caernarfon moved from Penrallt to Victoria Dock in the town in 2018. Welsh Government services and work are unaffected by the sale of the Penrallt site.”
